| WDU News & Updates: Gosford Bush Fire Update |
Major backburning operations are being undertaken on the fire in the Kariong area this evening with about 200 firefighters in 50 tankers conducting backburns from Tascott, Koolewong to Kariong and in the Patonga area.
Residents and people travelling in the Gosford area will notice smoke and
fire activity. The fire flared in some areas today as temperatures and winds
increased however no significant flare ups occurred.
Crews will be concentrating on deepening containment lines. North easterly winds
are predicted for tomorrow.There is minimal threat to property at this stage.
The fire is about 2500ha and is expected to reach around 5000ha when all areas
within the containment lines are burnt. Extra resources including a strike team
of five tankers from Hornsby and the SkyCrane were working with the 150
firefighters and six aircraft already in the area this afternoon.
The assistance of residents in reporting fires is appreciated, however, fire
authorities advise there is no requirement to report smoke sitings in the
vicinity of the fires currently being attended. Only new or unattended fires
should be reported to 000.
